Quick Teen Gifts

Not only for teens!Many ages text and abbreviate these days- most of us know BFFF, ROTF, or WWJD, LOL all these are fun to put on a notebook for a teen or a friend.

Chose a notebook or composition book you like and cover the front, this is a reptile print for a guy. I used Modge Podge to adhere and protect. Added LOL -laugh out loud, TAW - teachers are watching, and TTYL - talk to ya later. There are tons of other abbreviations that maybe your teen or friend uses that would be fun to put on a notebook for them. Add as many as you like. You can use sticker letters, cricut to cut your own or print them out in a nice font.

If you are making for females, add ribbons, flowers etc.

Also button necklaces and bracelets are great for young girls, teens or growns, use random buttons stretchy cord or a soft coated twine. You can use single buttons, double layers of buttons, beads or anything else you might like to add.

Spinning Wood Christmas Tree

Great project for many ages. Fun Christmas trees can be made for 1"x 1" strips of wood, they are cheap and many places will cut them for you- if like me you don't saw.

Decide how wide you want the bottom of your tree and cut each slat up 1" shorter. Use a block or 2 to 5 slats for your base. It can certainly be a regular tree if depending what you add or decorate it with.

Cover with paper, decoupage, glitter, paint, stain, glimmer mist or simply seal. You can stack the pieces on top of each other to make your tree or and glue or drill holes in the slats to hang and spin.

Mine is a spinner. You will need to decide what string, yarn or floss and wood, plastic or glass beads you want to use prior to drilling holes in your wood. This has been trial and error for me.

So test your beads and string first then drill the slats! Lightly sand the edges and the areas drilled. I stuck a toothpick in each hole of the slat to be sure there were no snags.

The clanking of a spinner can also appeal to those who love wind chimes.

Welcome just a few fun ideas that include some other participants great project links at the bottom.

Who can't use something quick for a fun kid? This is so quick! I cheated with an extra postcard

folded it in half (can use pieces of newspaper, an old Christmas card, or cardstock), printed my saying "EXTRA EXTRA Read All about it Rudolph Replacement Noses" on a separate piece of cardstock you could use paper (be sure you let it dry). Stamped Rudolph from CTMH Share the Magic set -you could also use a cricut image, sticker or what ever you like.

Fill a bag with brown and red or all red round candies, these were cherry balls. Adhere the top to the bag and you are done! Add ribbon or cording- get as fancy as you want and time allows. Great for any age!

Another fun thing I do every year with one lone domino, I stamp with Staz On with the same CTMH retired stamp(reminds me of Mrs. Claus) color in with Sharpie or permanent markers. Add a bit of glitter,

beads, glimmer mist or stickles ! Can be a card or scrapbook embellishment, tie a ribbon for an ornament, glue in a hair bow, turn it into a pin, or add a clamp or eye hook for jewelry.

Glass Gem Magents

Who doesn't love or use magnets? A great way to make someone smile. Great to help organize, play with or make into travel game pieces.

Paying more for the gems does not make them clearer, heavier nor better. They can be found in dollar stores, craft and department stores. Clear gems are best but you can also use pale colors if it goes with your theme. Gems are not perfect and may have bubbles or slight imperfections- these can add character.

Quick and fun for kids and adults to make. Pick any theme you like- words, initial, holiday, birthday, flowers, rockets whatever you have or choose.

I used retired Close to My Heart stampset you can certainly use stickers. If you use stamps it is a great way to personalize things like hair color or someone's fav color.

First take a gem and place it over what you want to use it then you can see what will show when done. Next use piece of cardstock (1-1/2" scraps work wonderfully). Stamp your image, color it in, and while you have the gem glue it on, I used Close to My Heart Liquid Glass. Many gems are not shaped the same. Remember you can use parts of an image it doesn't have to be perfect.

Allow the gem to dry and cut off the excess cardstock. Flip them over and secure a magnet strip on and you are done!

Put them in a tin with or with out a window if you like, it helps secure them for gift giving, great storage. You can also decorate the tin if you like. You can also give them on a cookie sheet, smooth edged metal anything or simply a box or bag.

Recycle Puzzle Pieces

Most of us have access to odd left over puzzle pieces and they are a great way to recycle broken jewelry, buttons, paper and other items. You can make card or scrapbook embellishments, key rings or ornaments to name a few things.

I used Close to My Heart black and silver embossing powder but you can certainly paint or cover with glue to adhere fabric or paper. I like to do several at once because they go so quick and you will probably get excited and creative!

Make them them solid or patterned, depending what you want to put on them. Remember there is no wrong way. Punch a hole for a ribbon to make an ornament or gift tag or add a ring for a key chain.

Gather some broken costume jewelry, buttons, sequins, seed beads, glitter, ribbons, and accessories to make new or revamp project.

Add some pin backs to make pins, leave the back flat if you are using for card or scrapbook embellishments or key rings.

Easy Christmas Tag from Scraps

No cricut needed- easy for my non crafty friends and family, or your kids to make! Great way to use scraps or left overs, and who does not need or love to get a great tag this time of year! Easy to co-ordinate with your wrapping paper to! If you have a cricut you could certainly use it.

Pull your chair up and grab whatever close to your pencil colors, old eye shadows & blushes, chalks, markers, recycled or left over buttons, fabric or paper scraps, embellishments, glitters, embossing powders, bling or whatever you have to use and you can whip these out in no time or get involved.

You will need one piece of 3" x 5" for your base and one piece 1"x 3" for the hat brim, and you can use white if you are covering with scraps. If you want a colored hat and don't have enough glitter etc cut from fabric or paper one 3 x 3 piece.
First I placed but did not glue the bling for his smile and eyes then used a Close to My Heart orange paintbrush tip marker to draw and color his nose. Then I used a pink CTMH marker to color cheeks before adhering the mouth. Then glue eyes and smile. You can leave your edges squared or use a corner rounder.

Decide what you are using on your hat, secure the brim and decorate as you like. The sky is the limit! Punch a hole to add ribbon, can stamp (write, sticker etc) "to & from" on the front or back.

Shrinky Dink Charms

Shrinky Dink is not just for the kids! It's a lot of fun for crafters also!
You can make some great charms for taper candles or drinking glass rings, jewelry, scrapbook embellishments, buttons, key rings and more!

Stamp your image with Staz On and you can color in with pencil colors before curing. Remember the shrinky dink will shrink 1/2 to 3/4 of it's original size. If you plan to hang or add it to make something punch a hole prior to curing.

Left photo below is prior to curing and after is the right photo below to give you an idea how much they shrink.

You can cure your image by baking according to package directions or use an heat embossing gun and a stylus to hold so it doesn't blow away. Don't panic when it starts to curl completely up it levels out when it is finished. It will be very hot so be careful. It will cool in about 2-3 minutes.

You can add a clasp, an o-ring and a chain, or a rhinestone stud earring post, hoops, etc.
They do last a long time below is a child's necklace that is 3 yrs old.

Framed Decor Gift

If you are looking for specific colors or a quick and fun decor or gift item, I loved this.

A gold wooden 4 x 6 frame, you can make any size you like- any map, word themed or holiday paper, find a stamp you like that coordinates.

Measure your paper, stamp your image (could use a rub on) I used a retired Close to My Heart ornament but a tree large word or other would work perfectly!

Add ribbons, glitter, bling or dimensional item to pop or match and that's it you are done! Depending what items you use you can seal your paper or add the glass on top if it fits.

I think this would be super with a USA theme for a special soldier also!

New Twist on Spatulas!

I wanted something different for recipe card sets, home-made dry soup or gift mixes, and thought this would be a fun twist to try.

Bought a cheap set of spatulas in case, used Staz-on (use any color you like) and snowman from Close to My Heart Pair A Phrase. You might use an initial, a crown for Queen of the kitchen, chicken or other for collectors or soup, even something to match the gift item you are attaching it to.

You will need to take your time as the spatulas are slick, I don't plan on eating or using it except for decoration so wasn't worried about food safety. Stamp your image, allow to dry about 5 minutes you touch it. I do suggest cheap spatulas until you try it and get the knack down.

Just a fun way to add a twist or a little extra something to your gift.

Using Scraps for Jewelry

Pins a are wonderful way to use your scraps. Quick!! Great for a gift, easy and inexpensive to mail. The snowman is still damp and has a lot of Glitz so it looks a little fuzzy yet.
Can be left over patterned paper and cardstock or stamp your own image, holiday or any theme you have or desire.

You will need about 2 inch pieces or patterned or stamped image on a nice cardstock, then your back will be 1/2 inch larger. I used some thick cardstock and patterned paper in the snowman and cardstock seahorse remnant, then corrugated cardstock on the lady. Make rounds or ovals pieces if you prefer or it works better with your scraps.

You will need to seal these after you put the pieces together and easier before adding the pin back. I prefer Close to My Heart Liquid glass (self leveling and forgiving) you can use Modge Podge. Then add Stickles, I prefer Close to My Heart if I want more dimension, or you could use glitter if you like.

Allow to dry before adding crystals or other bling. You might also like to add ribbon, tiny beads, bells or mini buttons if you want to get fancier.

Recycling with Rub on's

Recycling bottles can be a great gift or decoration that we forget about. Quick and fun to theme however you like with rub ons.

We all have glass bottles in various shapes, colors and sizes. This was a Prima flower bottle. Remove all the stickers and paper from your bottle and lid. A scrungie and water usually work fine if they don't just peel off.

Allow the bottle to air dry after removing stickers and cleaning. Then look through your rub ons (these were a left over sheet from 3BirdsDesign), rub ons can be found in most scrapbook/ craft store) pick the ones you want to use- any theme.

Place on your bottle and rub with a popsicle stick, or the tool that came with your rub on's.
You can see the image color lighten as the rub on adheres before you lift the carrier sheet. Use as many rub on's as you like for your theme.

Add ribbon, yarn or what ever to accessorise it and don't forget to do the lid. Now you can fill with candies, hot cocoa mix, buttons, scent chips, wax chips, plastic snowflakes or whatever matches your theme and size. You can also add a special tag if you like.

"Give Thanks " Project

Give Thanks.
As some of you know I had done 30 days of projects a few yrs back before Christmas and the blog was accidentally deleted. I am behind on this blog but have been asked again to do 30 days of projects, starting with a recent pal gift I made.

Sometimes Thanksgiving is not about all orange, golds, etc don't be afraid t0 go outside the box with your colors, and don't get so carried away with the bling, cricut cutouts & accessories you hide the true meaning. This is certainly a saying that can be used more than at Thanksgiving.

This was simply a plain white 4 x 4 coaster (chipboard would work), dollar store clothes pins, papers. The clothes pins will become the stand for the coaster.
A dear friend Betti G gave me the stamp several years back and I just love it, then it's popped up. Used Zips Adhesive Lines for a secure adhesive, you can use modge podge or other if you like.
It is reversible so you can add a saying or image to one side and a photo to the other. This was not my original idea it came from Shauna N.

Using a Brayer

Project for a challenge. Masking with paper strips, brayer and my Close to My Heart stamp pads. Randomly place your strips on the cardstock, roll over ink then brayer over the strips, move the strips and repeat with a different color. Use any colors you like.

(Brayered pieces are the darker ones in the middle of above photo). You can use triangles, strips, squares or other shapes as you like.

Stamped the shells on the bottom and found some great ribbon in my stash to go with it!

You can even use your strips for cards or other projects. You really can't mess it up so try it if you haven't.

Isabella is 5 years old, 18.5 pounds, and 25.5 inches tall and has a disease called Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) .

Isabella has had 45 know fractures, currently has some microfractures of the spine (not counted in above) as they are not sure how many there are. She has been lifeflighted 5 times and vented twice- once for 28 days in a coma.

She is very excited to have started kindergarten last week!

Stamping on Metal

Love a sale, especially when working with someone else's money!

Dollar General again had a ton of spring painted pails on sale normally $1 and 75% off ~ making them 25 cents each!

Toying with some different wedding table favor ideas and this certainly fits the brides price range!

Spray painted a few tins, with various Krylon. Allowed to dry.

Stamped with metal stamp ink (works better than staz-on) using single initial stamp from Close to My Heart "Baroque Alphabet", heat set as directed on ink, then added a new ribbon and the Bride loves it!

You could certainly use any color paint and themed stamp you desire to have a customized pail!

Simple Father's Day Gift

The keyring was a big success with the preschool class and the grown ups! Easy to personalize for Grandpa, Dad, special Uncle or Father's Day! Add a single person or several!

Cut a thick piece of chipboard the size you want, cut a photo and a leftover paper the same- print your Dad (or other) in any font you like.

Punch a hole in all 3. Coat 1 side of chipboard with modge podge and immediately add the paper. Smooth out with sponge and allow to dry. Turn chipboard over and do same with photo. Allow to dry and add your key chain or key ring.

Have fun!

Valentine Kiss Card

This imitation "Hershey's Kiss Card" is super easy. Cut a template for your kiss, stamp a greeting and a heart, adhere it - add a greeting inside, and then wrap in household aluminum foil. If you have candy kisses and keep the string you could add it in your card otherwise cut a thin strip. You could certainly stamp on your strip also.

Scrap That "Tree"

We all have awesome scraps we hate to throw out~ this is a great project use those leftovers to Scrap That Tree!
Use several different patterns or any reversible papers. I used CTMH Jingle Collection Creative Basics, added some wire for garland and Clear Sparkles (they are graduated sizes). The tree becomes an embellishment for the page.

Add your main photo mat, smaller photo or journaling areas, and a title!

You could even base the tree on cardstock, trim around the edges, add ribbon and make an ornament!

"Nutty " Thanksgiving Project

We all get a little nutty around the holidays, so the Nutty Turkey is a fun adult or child's project!

Supplies needed:
1 walnut
1 chestnut
5-1/2" of pipe cleaner
1 large silk leaf
1 small silk leaf
Strong glue ( I used Close to My Heart Liquid Glass- glue dot's did not hold)
cardstock scraps for beak and other additions you might like
2 bead for eyes
Ribbon or twine if you want a bow.

Glue the chestnut- bottom facing the front on the walnut. This gives a different color to the face.
You will need to hold project to add eyes, beak and other decorations you might like.
Add small leaf to the front of the large leaf and adhere to the back of the walnut.
Make pipe cleaner feet for your turkey to balance on.
Sit by an arrangement, candle or stand alone just for fun!

10 Minute Cornucopia

These Cornucopias are so quick!! Fill for a neighbor- teacher gift, wrap your silverware and napkin, place in your cornucopia on the plates for Thanksgiving dinner.

Start with a 7 or 8" square of paper, roll from one corner to start your cone,

secure with adhesive, edge with any decorative scissors, then fold your paper edges to the front.

Do the same to a piece of cardstock, and insert into the paper cone.

Decorate how you like with twines, ribbons, buttons, beads, a Thanks Tag , stamp and cut out an image or whatever look you want.

Turkey Fun!

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday! Calm and little stress. You can make your holiday funny, serious or incorporate it with a birthday (as our family has a few days before).
This is a fun turkey! Some stamping, some paper piecing.

Close to My Heart Playful Petals stampset to make some tail feathers, and Dash Dot CTMH font for my sign. Cardstocks are CTMH sunflower, orange, terracotta .

Picked individual petal stamps for feathers and cut them out. Various hole punches for holes in beaks, eyes, etc. Sanded some edges for a stronger look. I free handed my turkey but you can certainly find one on line or in a child's coloring/ story book.

You could make your sign say what ever you want.
Examples are:

Happy Birthday Turkey
Eat Pork
Go Vegan
Easy to use for a place card, card, scrapbook page, or other Thanksgiving craft.

Treats, Miscellaneous, and Halloween

Things have been busy here~ two scrapbooking retreats in 11 days, workshop, fall and Halloween approaching.
I know some do not celebrate Halloween but the projects can certainly be adjusted to other themes.
Many things I have done here were taught at workshops, gifts for retreats, or little party favors. Some are in quantity. Pull out your scraps. You don't have to have all new product for every project to match. When we do quantity sometimes simple is best.

I used a few sheets of retired CTMH paper and odd chipboard letters for the Scrap-a-holic goodie. I used Metro self adhesive tags for the wording. This could hold anything from a candy bar, wax melt bars, or whatever you like.
If you don't want to use an initial, use flowers, ribbon, a holiday item or whatever you want and remember they do not all have to match!

The tiny bags- just a token of fall candy corns. CTMH cardstock and inks matched perfectly. Use Fall, Harvest, or Halloween.

The organdy bags (bought premade) , insert a thick piece of scrap paper, stamp your image directly on the bag with Stazon. Fill with candies, votive candle, scrapbooking goodies, a small stamp or whatever you like!

The Boo card was traced, cut the window out - scissor distressed, stamped inside and liquid glass on the windows. A couple of odd stickers and a little bling.

Treat Cup

Lots of things going on here! Making many projects~ some I can't share because they are for upcoming events! October is a busy retreat and workshop month for me.
This is the cutest treat cup, a surprise for a special group of ladies I have for an upcoming event. They can choose a Fall, Halloween, or General image. I used CTMH papers, stock and pirate stamp (not so clear in this photo) .

Fill with your favorite goodies for a double treat! Great for any party, get well, pencils for a teacher, or even filled with sugar free treats for someone on a diet.

Treat Containers & Recycled Gifts: Rub-ons

Do you have rub on's, left over or sheets you haven't used? These are great projects using rub on's! You can pick any theme sheet, or use uncommon designs.

This was a half a sheet on a recycled plastic container (came peppermint sticks inside) . You can add a ribbon, yarn, and a tag and fill with anything you can fit in the mouth of the container. Who wouldn't love to get this filled with anything!

I found the little glass flower pots on sale for 15 cents each last year because the seeds were missing... and they will hold a tea light, votive candle, and many other things. This used pieces parts of a rub on left overs. So don't be afraid to mix up pieces from different sheets.

Last but not least a super lamp. The neighbor's empty wine bottle (washed inside and out, wiped with rubbing alcohol prior to applying rub ons) , add a string of 25 Christmas lights in side (no drilling holes for me~ lol) , and the entire sheet of rub ons! The great thing ... I didn't even separate them to add them on, just placed the entire sheet as they were placed on top of the bottle.

This is birthday theme, you could certainly add a larger bow, a few silk flowers in the mouth of the bottle. What a fun gift for anyone. You can see it sheds beautiful reflections when plugged in and it highlights your rub ons!

Scrapbook "Bell Pull" or Plaque

Got this great plaque kit from 3Birdsnest.com it was fun, and it's on clearance! Comes with nice thick 6" chipboard circles, reversible papers, punch out flowers-photo mats circles- words, awesome metal raised letters, rickrack, velvet ribbon and a tassle.

Decorate each like you desire.

Add your photos ( this was from 1995), black and white would look nice! Next string your ribbon and chipboard, add your tassel and you have a plaque or a bell pull!

I may use some of my new Close to My Heart stamps for images for the photo mats. Wonderful treat for yourself or a gift!

I have had several ask in this current economy "how do you stretch the products you already have"? Whether you are making items for yourself, swaps or gifts you don't have to use your entire stash on every project.
Here's a 6" tag for a Boy's layout, very simple. Left over CTMH cardstocks, brads, stamps (one shirt says "Boys"), inks and a few markers or pencil colors. The receiver can now add lines to journal, journal without lines, or even a small photo. They can punch a hole up tog and add string, wire or something they have if they choose.

Old playing cards are wonderful to alter even without a lot of layers. I used blank cards stamped, colored, chalk, a little glitter, then cut 1 flower into 4 parts --that covers 4 cards, instead of using the entire flower on each card. This card is reversible in case someone likes one side more than the other. You can take Stazon and cover a regular playing card and simply emboss if you don't want a lot of layered paper.

Remember the hand hole punches we all seem to have? I know so many have gone to the cricut and other that we forget how a simple hand punch can add a little depth or dimension to a project. Again very simple topper, embossed and punched out stars. When it's on a layout the cardstock or papers will show through the stars. Then when you pick your project, if you want to add ribbon, buttons or whatever you can.

Take an old coaster and alter it or use a blank one. This one is stamped, chalked a little glitter and again some left over papers. (Remember I am not a photographer- ha ha ). If you don't celebrate Halloween you can pick any theme.

Envelope Card Projects

We all have left over envelopes, they are cheap and have unlimited uses. Below are are 2 examples of a twist on cards made from envelopes. Great for cash, a pack of tea, small flat candy bars, gift cards, etc. Pick any theme you like from Birthdays to Christmas.

Plain white envelope, opened the flat and stamped on the front of it, I used CTMH inks and matching cardstocks.

Turn the envelope over stamp on 2 corners below the flap, stamp a message if you like. You don't have to stamp all the back because most of it won't show when it's folded.

2 mats of cardstock and a stamped image, added to the front lower side of your flap. Use removable tape so it will open and close freely.

Take any colored envelope you happen to have and use some leftover dimensional embellishments from your stash-- can stamp leaves or stems, draw them on or use bling as I did. Add a ribbon on the top and add a special tag if you like.

Christmas in July

It's hard to think about~ especially with the economy but Christmas is 5 months away! All the more reason to make your own cards. For those of us who do, it's time to start. I have a few CTMH Christmas in July card workshops and this is one of the cards we will make.

Found a template on line and resized and altered it. The original template made a larger mug requiring a larger envie (didn't want to pay more postage), wanted a fancier handle so designed my own.
I used CTMH stamp and Olive green second generation stamping, cream embossing powder for the liquid, silver embossing powder for the handle, and some stickles for the berries.
(I tried chocolate embossing power for the liquid- it was a bit harsh). DTP edges.

Cut a spoon handle and inserted the greeting. I wouldn't ge overly fancy with the top of the spoon, it can bend easily.

You could certainly paper the font of the mug if you liked. Could add more bling, a ribbon on the spoon handle, somthing to match you stamp, a tiny tag, or tons of other ideas. You could add a special Christmas t-bag also.

I have a relative who is a scrapbooker and like me gives many for gifts. I wanted to do something nice for her birthday as she's always scrapping everyone else. You know how we do~ the hubbies, the grands, our siblings, pets, and family, etc. She, as many of us~ doesn't scrap a lot of herself so I thought this was a great idea!
She's an extremely talented watercolor artist and can paint or embellish the layouts as she likes ~I just gave page themes for 10 about her layouts.
The cardstocks and some embellishments were CTMH, several of the papers were from 3birds.com the exSCRAPaganza set (great co-ordinating stickers and chipboard) pastel section. These are all double layouts.

Star Book

Star Books are such a surprise. A wonderful center piece for a table or mantle. I used Close to My Heart "Silhouette" papers, and added red velvet chipboard letters to personalize. This it the outside with the album closed.

This is what each of the individual pages look when the Star Book is open. Add your photos, stickers, or small embellishments for your bride, birthday, parent, or whatever.

And this is the top view!

You don't want to add bulky embellishments if you plan to have your Star Book closed. The cardstock layers secure the shape of the star and certainly give character!

What you need:
2 pieces of chipboard 4" x 4" for covers (can use coasters)
2 pieces of patterned paper 5-1/2" x 5-1/2" to cover the chipboard
12" of ribbon cut in 1/2
7 cardstock 8" x 4"

Graduation Projects

I haven't been hiding, just can't share a lot of what I have been making, some are gifts.
These cards were all for ladies graduating this week! Close to My Heart Just Blooms and Window Charms to make the flowers.

Doing albums for seniors is always a hit! You can do the ABC's of Senior year or general themes.
I like double layouts because most themes like sports or cheering have many special photos. If you have photos to add use them, and leave room for the receive to add their own journaling and
photos.

Below are layouts for a seniors "Good Times" also for an album.

I don't over embellish as I am not sure what special things they will add to their pages. But you certainly could add more if you like.

Puzzle Project

What's on your refrigerator? We all love puzzles and this 12 x 12 refrigerator project was just to fun! It is perfect for school photos and some of the older black and white photos we all have. Change your wording and it would make a super Father's Day gift or pick any theme you like.

Right up with sliced bread in my book! Ha Ha! It's a kit from 3birdsnet.com and includes (9)
4 x 4 " chipboard puzzle pieces (nice thickness), papers, chipboard words and designs, alphabet stickers, buttons and most important 2 magnet strips !

Turn your papers to the wrong side, be trace your puzzle piece, and then cut slightly inside the lines to avoid trying to trim down after it's adhered. The pieces need to fit well.

If you are using tape runners you will want to tape your paper not the puzzle piece as it will stick to the tape and peel off, or you can use glue. Decorate as you like, add your photos, then flip the entire puzzle over and add pieces of the magnet strip to secure for hanging.
If you don't cut well and are a stamper then feel free, I did the puzzle piece below for a swap and it was also fun. But you could certainly alternate some papered puzzle pieces and stamp others, and mix them together. I used Close to My Heart inks, chalks, and some water color pencils.

Fun Fold Surprise Card

It's always fun to open a card that has surprises. This is a birthday card, says "Celebrate (not showing in photo), you can use a name or greeting.

Surprise! It has 4 stamped images, and a real balloon inside. Nice treat for someone on your mailing list. I have used this pattern for about 5 years, and still love it!

Start with your card base, stamp, paper, emboss & decorate it how ever you like. I made a hat from a square.
You can use any size a square-- fold 2 sides towards the back and trim off, make a band , add some bling and there you have it!

Next cut one contrasting piece 2 "x 11", four 2"x 3-1/2" for mats, and four 1-1/2" x 3" to stamp your images on. (you can use stickers or whatever)
I used a retired CTMH set with a birthday hat, cake, sundae, and confetti. I punched a hole in the confetti and inserted a balloon prior to adhering it to the mat. You can distress, glitter, color or highlight you images as you like.
Adhere the images to their mats, then adhere the mat to the 2" x 11" strip. Fold your strip to have 4 equal sections, and attach to the inside of your card.
You can make the same card for anniversaries, graduates, and many other things!

Memorial Day !

Many of us have family out of state, and like to share things we do for the holidays- maybe a parade or a child's first sparkler. Photos are always great. So are cards, but I wanted to do a little more, so it became a mini album!

I started with Third Coast Stamp and Close to My Heart stocks, inks, markers. Made a card a little smaller than a regular card envelope, rounded the corners, added 1/4" larger pages. You can make yours smaller or larger inside or outside. Layered the pages inside. Add more if you like.

Add photos and bling . Adhere, staple or tie the fold with floss or ribbon, and you have a great surprise for someone long distance. Be careful what bling you add as you don't want it to get caught in the sorting machines in route.

Fits in a purse for a brag book, or stand on a table to display.

Graduation!

It's that time of year to honor special grads! This year I have several!
Many of us see and buy specialty papers we think will be great for a project because of words, backgrounds or other neat things, then we get it home and "what WAS I thinking?" !!
I liked this one because it said "Recognition", has tiny "class of" in background, and a diploma, flourishes, and neutral colors. That's all great till you want to add photos. Then what do you cover up? !!

Daughter of a dear friend (for 30 yrs), obviously special, and so is the beautiful photo invite. I decided to simply mat the invite with CTMH cranberry cardstock, add some CTMH cranberry organdy ribbon to overcast the printed ribbon shadow, alter the paper with CTMH cranberry marker and add some bling with stickles and prisma. There is still plenty of room to journal, add 2009 or other bling, if we so chose. Congrats Taylor!

Photo Charms or Jewelry

Love Shrinky Dinks! Was playing around and wanted to do something a little personal for a tiny gift.
I took a photo and printed it from computer on Shrinky Dinks paper.
Be sure you use the textured side or lightly rough it before printing.
I used 4 x 6" photo because it will shrink to half size when you heat. Allow to dry about 10 minutes before touching the print area. I wanted a little color so I inked a Close to My Heart stamp with Moonstruck ink and stamped it directly on the photo (textured side of the Shrinky Dinky).

Regular inks will run when you heat them so I used Stazon on top of the moonstruck ink.
Cut around the outside of the flower or design and punch a hole to add an o-ring or string for a necklace, key ring, scrapbook page charm or whatever you like. I used a heat embossing gun to shrink. The Shrinky Dinky will start to roll up on you as you heat_ and that can be scarey, it will layout back out as it shrinks. Be sure to use a pencil or object that does not get hot to hold on to your charm while heat shrinking. Wala you have a personal charm!

"The Day I Was Born" Layout

This was a challenge from a special friend Sydney, and it was just that! I as several my age have limited photos of my birth, and most are an odd size and have the dates printed on the sides. I didn't have a lot to journal as I am not the "star is born" or most beautiful baby type for myself! lol I handwrote the journaling tabs because I was out of printer ink.

I used the photos and a link from some workshops I taught for customers 2 years ago to get the "tidbits" on my birth year.
http://dmarie.com/timecap/step1.asp gives prices, wages, songs, books, events and other information about the year you or someone else was born. It was fun to see that postage stamps were 3 cents and gas was 29 cents a gallon.

Papers were Close to My Heart "Daydream Level 2" and added my baby bracelet on the layout.

I am deciding if I want to add more embellishments and print the "tidbits" or leave them. If you haven't done a page on yourself take the challenge!

Fun Mini File Holder

Mini office or storage files are super for cards, recipes, treats or just for fun! A friend (BG) shared her template with me and another friend (LM) sent me some Bella stamped images, the papers and cardstock are Close to My Heart.

Cut your template (this is small one) score and cut where directed.

Assemble and decorate. You can stamp, paper, distress and make for any theme!

I pulled my bottom back tabs out and punched a hole, tied with chocoalte waxy flax for a different look. You could also add bling, a flower, or great chipboard themed item. Please don't ask for the large template I don't have one~ ha ha~ I eyeballed it, assembled, and didn't make a template.

Book Mark and Holder

Sometimes we need something simple and easy to mail. Many are readers so bookmarks are useful and decorative. Make a matching holder and you have a great set!

Use a piece of 6-1/4 x 12 inch cardstock, cut your bookmark and holder, then score your holder.
Make your slit for your flap to slide in.
Decorate with scraps or something new and fun. I used Close to My Heart Silhouette papers.
I used one of the Silhouette stickease rounded tags on the bookmark then trimmed around it for a more decorative edge. Punched a hole to decorate.

Many ways and items to use for decorating. I don't recommend thicker ribbon or larger beads on the bookmark as it may not fit in the holder when closed. I used waxy flax and a spiral. There is also a clear "love" charm tied on.

Many options for themes.

House Treat Holder

I used this in some workshops and the ladies just loved them! They are one of those small projects with tons of uses!

These little houses are wonderful treat holders~ just lift the roof, decorate as bird houses and enclose seeds, give to someone who's moving, a real estate agent ...and other ideas below!

First cut your template, then random stamp (or if you have double sided cardstock print it right on the cardstock!), then score it.

Adhere your sides and bottoms be sure you leave your top flaps folded outside to support the roof.

Add chipboard or whatever papers, ribbons, embellishements you like.
You can take a small character stamp, to make several images to use for a mini playhouse if you like

Kids can color as they like and simply cut a slit in the image piece and insert it into a small folded piece to use with their house!

If you want you can attach the roof and add a ribbon or string to hang as a birdhouse or ornament.

"Use those Eyelets" Easter layout

I have several customers asking what to do with extra eyelets. Obviously you can use a few on cards and layouts, but when we purchase an entire pack we usually have many of the same color- style left.

I took a piece of cardstock, penciled a few scrolls down one side (you can use a template or left over area from chipboard embellishments) , get as fancy as you like. Added some Easter egg eyelets. Add as many as you like.

Then I took a black pen and traced over the pencil markings.

Next added a few other little lines. You can stamp, draw dots or diamonds~ what ever you like to go with your theme.

Easter tag and a photo mat

Words can be added for your Easter Prince or Princess if you wanted. You can do this with stars, birthday cake, baby item or any eyelets to use them up. Then add what ever bling, ribbon or decorations you like for the occassion.

Milk Carton Treat Holders

Many of us have made these adorable milk cartons, but we forget about them. If you haven't made one give it a try. If you want the template email me or post a comment on this post and leave me your email address or do an online search if you like.

Cut your template from cardstock ( I used CTMH Twilight) , if you want to random stamp on it do that before you score. Score as directed. I used a crimper on the top to look like a real milk carton.

Add your paper ( CTMH Cocoa Cafe) , leave plain, distress or use other technicques as you like.

Stamp your feature image ( as shown on the top photo, stamp was TC) and adhere. You can easily personalize for someone, a holiday, birthday or event ~ add all the bling you want. Fill with your treats and seal!

"Scrap" Easter Eggs

Bust out your scraps! Yes all of these are made from scraps! I think they are a blast to make!

I originally punched out an oval and was planning to simply decorate a few eggs for some cards, but then the creative mode kicked in. I drew an egg holder for a template. Then I got crazed~ lol

You can punch holes in the eggs to look like polka dots, or use the circles for eyes or cheeks!

Add feathers or yarns for the hair, waxy flax for whiskers, beads or punches for eyes and nose (markers and color pencils work also!), cut some squares for the beak... and I have become addicted! lol

You can see that 1-2 or 3 would be adorable on a card, tag, scrapbook page, napkin ring or many other items! Use plain cardstock and ink as I did the chicken, or use colored cardstock and printed papers~ the sky is the limit here!

Recycled Easter Basket / Mailer

Empty 2 liter bottles make awesome mailers! They are super because you aren't adding extra weight before you add your surprises. I was in several Easter Pal swaps using bottles and this is one sample. The bottles also come in a variety of colors.

You can cut a door as I did or cut the entire bottom of the bottle to fill.

Add some shredded paper or tissue paper, add your surprises, securely glue the lid on ( I used liquid glass) . Great view for the person receiving and the postal employees!

I have added 4 x 4" chipboard sheets, glue stick, candle, incense, candy and MUCH more to this one! It's amazing how much they can hold!

Securely tape around the bottle to cover your door. Add an index sized card for your addresses and get it weighed to mail~ or tie a great bow and hand deliver! Sorry I can't show my address as I don't want the 3 ladies knowing which one is getting this bottle!

Easter Fry Box!

Fry boxes can be used for many things, so why not a quicke Easter treat holder. Great project for the kids or the grown ups!

Random stamped with Close to My Heart stampsets, I love Easter Friends but it is retired.

Stamp an egg, bunny, chick or whatever (can be a birthday cake or flower!) color and cut out.

Adhere it on the outside and then stamp, color, cut another image to go on the inside of the front of the fry box. You can pop these up for a 3-d effect using pop dots.

Add any ribbons or embellishments you like and fill. You can see I have Jelly Bellys, chapstick, tea candle and other small things just to give you an idea. So it doesn't have to be all candy! lol

Need a template here you go! It's also super cute to cut your box from colored cardstock. You can even punch holes for the ribbon to become handles for a basket.

Recycled Box-Easter Basket & Bunny Shaped Card

Everyone looks for that last minute Easter basket or box, it never fails.

I love recycling things and it's awesome when you find something sturdy! So this simple empty box became.....

A super fun Easter Basket and it had a white lining.

The box had preforated slits down the side so easy to cut the top 1/2 off, covered with Close To My Heart Paper and punched a hole for the ribbon. (This grograin ribbon was hand died by a friend~ Thanks Betti!)

Filled with shredded paper, and a few goodies, added a die cut bunny. (You could add whatever) I would suggest your tie a knot on your handle to secure for carrying. You could add fringe, or ribbon around the top, flowers, bling, dies or other on the front. This also holds cards! Next...

Random stamped with Close to My Heart Chocolate ink and stamped with one of the eggs from Easter Eggs stampset (Feb. Stamp of the Month).

I liked the eggs because it gave dimension and a look of feet and legs. Decorate with ribbon, flowers, bling or what ever. Make a liquid applique or flower tail.

St Patrick's Card

Close to My Heart Clover Meadow cardstock. The stamp is not CTMH, but I love it! Used some CTMH markers, some chalks, stickles, and a little tearing and dtp inking. My camera and I are still fighting, the really black and some small detail doesn't show in the photo.

The saying was done with Close to My Heart Cd font "Luck is when opportunity knocks and you answer".

"That's Amore" Flower Card

Have some friends and customers that wanted to try something different on a card using their cutting machines, some techinques and less stamping.

That's Amore papers by Close to My Heart .

The papers are reversible so you can have many different looks.

Cut the flowers with a Sizzix die in different papers. Inked the tags, sanded the blush cardstock and used the center from the flowers. Added a photo hanger in the flower and some waxy flax.

The tag is removable. You could certainly stamp a greeting on it, add some bling, eyelet or brads to pop any of the colors.

Chipboard Coaster Card / Books

Trying to catch up on a few projects today! This is coaster card (book) was made for me by a friend Lisa C. The coasters are painted, the eggs are cut outs, inked and a stamped greeting. Open it up and surprise!

Easter saying and an Easter poem, eggs and a bunny! Pretty neat! Could be used as a decoration.

I am making a coaster book/ card for a secret pal but can't show you the finished project (she checks this blog from time to time)

Using a Vintage vellum print (done from home) and the metal photo holders. Below is the inside it will have poems and some embellishments. Very simple to make, use 2 chipboard coasters and allow just enough extra paper to allow it to fold. Doesn't get much easier than that! You could add personal photos, journaling, sayings or whatever you want.

Ever have one of those days or need a laugh? This is another card that was sent for a swap.

Had to be mostly green, any theme. I love the Goofy stamps (old but fun). Embossed and sanded the cardstock, added a little bling and then used paper photo corners for the images.

Cupcake Cards

Few cards using Close to My Heart "Cupcake Sprinkles" at a workshop tonite. Several variations and techinques.

This card was inspired by another CTMH consultant we added twists to it. Some grograin ribbon, embossing, and distressing, and a real ticket.

Embossing, distressing, liquid glass, sequin for top of cupcake, and a ribbon loop for the greeting tag.

A different take on the cupcake (not finshed) the greeting is not on the card yet. The cupcake paper was really from Valentine's Day. There are so many fun ways to use this stamp and many colors or embellishments to add.

"It's In The Glass" Card

This was fairly simple and a fun project. It could be used for a party invite, St. Pat's card, game nite, birthday or many other events.

I took a white card folded and cut a glass from it. Then used the left left over piece to make liquid for inside the glass ( move it in slightly to make your color smaller. I used Clover Meadow ( you could use pinks, reds or whatever you chose).

I lightly sanded down the sides to give a slight look of liquid in the glass, added random liquid glass and then heated to puff for foam, add a lot or a little. I also did a few dots down the glass for bubbles or drips.

Depending size you chose you can add a gift card or pack of Koolaid for a child. Can also stamp a greeting inside.

Change your colors or add colors for game night.

Could certainly use prisma, stickles, glitter or other around the side for more of a glass or sparkle look. Add a mock straw or a piece of fruit.

Courage / Horse Card

I have two different swaps due for March, one to be green cards but not St. Pat's theme, and the other swap green with horses . So I have been playing around.

This card uses a two tone garden green paper on the top and a strip of garden green, the horse is a CTMH retired stamp , then prisma-ed over double sided adhesive, added garden green cardstock(distressed edges) with the words "Courage is..." . Inked the stitches around. Added a green pearl dot.

The lighting does not do the colors true justice.

The inside strip of distressed cardstock and says " being scared to death but saddling up anyway" and I stamped another image from the horse set.

Anyone who gets this can certainly add more DIP distressing, stippling or other techniques if they desire.

Mock Grungeboard

Necessity does odd things to us when we don't have products we want. I was wishing for more grungeboard today for a mini album, started playing with some cardboard and this what I ended up with.

In case you can't see it , I took a cardboard box, a little heavier than a gift box but still pliable and ran it through the bigshot with a cuttle bug file. I only did 1/2 of the chipboard with the design and it did leave a little indention that covers up, you can do the entire piece.

Rounded my corners, punched holes, distressed with Desert Sand, added some corkboard and there you have it! Yes you can still sand it!

Make your pieces any size you like, leave them square or round the edges. Use piece for a card front, album page, layouts or whatever you like. If you have dies you can cut flowers, ABC's and more from your chipboard, pretty neat! Then just distress or sand just like grungeboard!

Add glimmer mist, buttons, flowers or whatever you like for your project.

If you are using a thinner chipboard, do one piece and adhere it to another if you want it thicker. Set weight on it until firm.

Stamping Puzzles on Sticks

I do some local preschool art classess and they wanted to use up some popcicle sticks. I had done these as card fronts and layout additons several years ago, you can leave them in pieces a give as a puzzle for travel or just a little gift wrapped in ribbons. Great project for any age.

We used versamark ink to stamp image, then this was brayered, sponged, and glittered by a 4 yr old.

Line your sticks up, stamp it. If using Versamark allow to dry for about 10 min. before coloring in. You can random stamp several smaller images if you want variety and can certainly do them is a fun color if you like. Your sticks have natural shadings and vary in color but that adds character to your image.

St. Patrick's Card

Don't have a shamrock or a leprechaun, what no pot of gold either?? We sometimes don't go out of our box, if we did we could think of many stamps and papers that we have to use. This is not a typical St. Patrick's Day image or card, but you can easily make it into one! Many people collect frogs and carry them for good luck charms.

I simply added "Lucky" then the inside can read "to know you" or "to have you". Add Happy St. Patrick's Day if you like.

I love this little Close to My Heart stampset, Happy Endings! The swirls could also be stamped

on the solid green or embossed on the black to add more design, add some bling or glitter if you like and have a fantastic card! I did double pop the female frog so she's elevated to add dimension.

Valentine, Snowman & Lollipop Fun

Some of you are applying sunscreen and we have still have snow in Ohio, a little warmer today but not out of the woods yet. If you are missing it, here's a Valentine Snowman!

Made from a cardstock door knob hanger, clear plastic, pop squares, and confetti to make a version of a shaker card. The face was made with a permanent marker and allowed to dry well.

I used Close to My Heart Cranberry ink but you could use blues, pinks or even black, depending on what you want.

If you want it more male oriented change your insides. Candy Cinnamon hearts would also be cute. Great for a card front, a treat itself, or add a ribbon for a tag and add to a gift. Add sequins, marker in or add real buttons to his tummy if you like.

The lollipop holder was cut from a sizzix die and it has 3 pieces to the flower. A hole in the center allows the stick of the lollipop to fit in and the cello wrapping helps secure it.

I used pop dots to seperate the layers. You could add green leaves, a ribbon, tag or other. If you don't have a die cut machine, cut your own flower or heart pieces.

Treat Bag -Pail or Purse?

It's a purse, it's a tote, no it's a pail! It can be which ever you decide! Use sparkle and bling for the gals and make a purse ~ shells, stars or beach items for a tote or pail for the boys ~ holiday items for a pail for either! Stamp or paper your cardstock, tie ribbons, tags , flowers and decorate the handle openings.

No dies or special cutting equipment needed just a template and scissors.

The greatest part- It took me like 12 minutes to make this simple one. So if you weren't getting elaborate you could mass produce easily.

Valentine Boxes

With Valentines day and all the odd shaped treats and gifts many times I find myself without a box. It's so easy to make your own!

This was a piece of cardstock cut to 7 x 9 " then scored and folded @ 5 and 7" for the bottom and another piece the same for the top. The cardstock was so much fun, an entire sheet of separate Valentines.

I cut a piece with 4 and adhered it and the ribbon to the boxtop.

The box below was cut from a template found online for a 2 x 2" box perfect for holding money or a few chocolate kisses.

I used a scrap for the band around the box and a heart brad and 2 shades of pink for a flower. The photos aren't great but you get the idea. These little boxes are economical to make, and adorable to add to a holiday tree! You could stamp on the stock, glimmer mist, glitter or many other things. Photos aren't great but you can get the idea.

Still My Prince

Just a fun Valentine for a guy that's not fond of bright green! I think he's just the cutest little guy! The little saying is "still my prince".

I used a template shared with me a year or so ago, stock was run through a cuttlebug template and sanded lightly. You could certainly use a brighter green, and distress or DTP the edges.

As you can see from the 2 photos you have several options to do his eye lids. Add a few eyelashes, cheeks, or a big red smile if you want!

Some I inserted a tiny red metalic hearts for the eyes and larger heart for his nose.

His face is popped up with pop dots. Even add a big red smile or a balloon or ribbon to replace his roll up tongue. This is the entire front of the card and it opens to reveal your personal message or to stand for display.

Might be a great kid project too!

Snowmen Aren't Just for Holidays

Snowmen are so much fun and come in many shapes, textures and sizes. I know they are collected by many but they are certainly not just for holidays!

This card was made for a January Pal, and was too fun to make! The circle is stippled & popped with pop dots, stamped face, and covered the dimensional buttons added a bit of waxy flax and some White Daisy fibers. ( Aspen papers from Close to My Heart)

Very simple and the inside definitely reflects our temps this month!

You could certainly glitter, glimmer mist or embellish as you choose.

Recycled Valentine

If you are into recycling you will love this!

I am a coffee drinker and have one of these a week! I was playing around, stripped the plastic cover off and it's a clear bottle! Thrilled me to the bones!

A few scraps of cardstock, a couple of heart punch outs, little ribbon, the skull popped with foam dots and wa la! A fun containter!

I know many may not care for the stamp but you could certainly use a heart , cupid or whatever for your Valentine! The skull is from Stampin Up Just Jawing set and was a gift to me. I embossed him, you can prisma his heart eyes or many other things to really jazz it up!

You could certainly add a tag, some shredded paper inside, a Valentine greeting or message in a bottle. Fill it with candy hearts, buttons, eyelets or many other fun things! The bottom round is a bit ovaled so the organdy ribbon worked best there.

Male Valentine Treat

A friend asked me to come up with something fun but male themed for her 9 year old son for the Valentines exchange at school. She preferred not to do a sports theme or candy and she had a lot of super neat pencils.

So we went with pencil boxes. Super easy and it's something he can help stamp and color in. Would make a fun teacher gift or class project! We used the lizard from The Angel Company and the candy hearts from Close to My Heart stampsets. Colored in with Close to My Heart Markers. Could easily be done with markers, crayons or pencil colors.

I know many girls also like critters so if you wanted to fancy it up or use girl oriented stamps, papers and colors you certainly could. Sand or distress the "to / from tag", double mat, add some bling and you are done!

I found the template for the pencil box on line. They offered several sizes to accomodate 3 or more pencils. If you print them they will show the fold lines, but since we are doing 27 we ran with it anyway! lol

Altered Paper Clip

"Spending Time with Grandparents" theme from a swap. The items can go on layouts, cards, or other projects.

Most clips I have previously altered have been very feminine and frilly~ flowers, glitter, ribbons, etc. and usually round. This was a mass production effort to have 15, as I had the swap and wanted a couple for myself.

Many of have single or widowed Grandparents, or are doing heritage pages the neutral colors were a challenge but fun. All Grandpa's don't appreciate pink! lol!

The saying is "Time with Grandparents: Priceless".

Stippling on the saying, sanding on the larger chocolate square, largest square was embossed and then DTP inked for more effect. Added a little waxy flax and clear beads. If someone wants they can add feminine colors, flowers or other embellishments to meet their specific color needs. Lots of foam squares to elevate the pieces and give support.

Desk Calendar

I love these papers! New Close to My Heart "Daydream" level 2 set.

It has swirls, flourishes, frog's with crowns, other crowns, hearts -- soft and bold colors!

Many times we over think a calendar we really only use for quick reference.

This is just a small desk calendar to check the dates. I have another one I use to write memos and events on.

I used Close to My heart Jan. stamp of the month "Moments in Time" and post-it notes!

Super simple idea as they are not thick and simply peel off when the next month arrives.

The base is a heavier cardstock to maintain shape and support. You could trim your calendar pages down and even add a photo mat beside it! You could also add more color to your calendar pages if you like. I added a little ric- rac and a button. You could add anything you like.

Very simple project and fun to make!

Fun Calendar

It's that time of year~ 2009 calendars.

We have many options for homemade and personal calendars. Many printshops offer a variety of photo designs and sizes. I enjoy making them and doing specific colors, themes or using different techniques.

You could random stamp on your background, cut photo mats in different colors to pop the pictures, add stickers & embelishments, weave or tie hemp or ribbons in the corners, or distress and use some techniques. You could also add chipboard initials or names.

During the holidays we always get photos of our own family, and from friends.

These georgeous boys belong to an extra special friend I met in Gulf Shores, Ala.

You can use a wooden block if you aren't into cardstock. I love the cardstock because it's collapsable if you want to store it after. You can also use removable tape to change photos by months.

Each side has a photo area in a rotating spot, obviously there are 4 sides to this calendar.

The wallet size photos work super on this size but you could enlarge your base if you like.

Female Empowerment Wallet

In a new year it seems many of us choose resolutions. I generally don't, I am not fond of seeing how people feel if they fail on a diet or other.

I do try to be personally better than the year before. I love reading uplifting, motivational, or empowering messages for us women! It's nice to read one that gives us new energy.

I decided to make a wallet filled with empowering cards for several during the holidays. They were a big hit! The photo colors may be a little off but I believe you will get the idea.

The wallet opens up to hold 2 cards you can see each day.

One reads "May what I receive today mirror what I have given out."

Another reads "Today may test my strength, I will still be the best woman I can be".

There is no lack for wonderful sayings or quotes!

Then the back opens to hold other cards for more days. I made 31 sayings for each wallet, so they can be alternated to empower us each day.

Due to the amount of cards I did not embellish a lot because I wanted them to lay flat to fit in a purse if wanted.

I used Close to My Heart Perfect Day papers, Connections and Spot On Background stamps, and inks. I stippled a little. You could certainly embellish, distress or paper more or less. These would also make super lunch box notes.

In Memory Layout

Today's post is in honor of someone very special, my husband's Grandmother who left us in the wee hours this morning.

Grandma loved to look pretty, and would often sing bits of that song, "I am pretty oh so pretty".
Always wanted her earrings and jewelry on. Great dry wit and great sense of humor, wonderful cook.
The background is a wordle and states a few words that remind me of her. She loved candy, I forgot to add that to the wording so I may add a nice chocolate candy embellishment. I didn't want to stamp or use a lot of patterned paper, I wanted to see the words that reminded me of her.

New Year's Card

I love the wording on this card

"Through each passage and each season you must trust the goodness of life"

We should take only the good from the 2008 and be empowered for 2009.

Each day we have blessings and we should remember to count them all.

I had received a simliar, smaller card for Christmas and loved the overall design of it. I used stamps from Close to My Heart stampsets, Olive and Smokey Plum cardstocks (sanded lightly), and inks . The ribbon was from a secret sister gift and I have been waiting for the perfect project for it.

Stamped the envie and we're done!

It's New Year's Eve, travel safely. If you are superstitious remember whatever you are doing at midnight you will be doing all year, so be sure it's something that makes you strong and happy!

I will officially wish you a New Year tomorrow.

Altered Puzzles & Soot Stamping

Everyone loves puzzles sometime! Teens, younger kids, seniors and even us!

Alter single pieces for jewelry or card/ scrapbook embellishments or do an entire puzzle! Even use them for a card!

They come in a variety of sizes and thicknesses. The above photo is full puzzle that will be slightly attached to the card for the receiver to take apart if they like.

This puzzle was heavily gloss coated, I sanded lightly to remove some. It is not finished, I will remove some of the brown chalk on the limgs, stipple in more winter coloring to the background and go over the white areas again. Because I am using chalks and inks to color I have sealed some in between.

I love this stamp and have used it a lot in the past few years, but find it hard to color-shade correctly. And it is larger!

I was multitasking and did some puzzles, as the inks were drying I did soot stamping on glossy cardstock.

I love soot stamping. Use glossy cardstock and a candle. Hold the cardstock directly over a burning candle until coated, stamp and it will remove only the soot it touches. Spray with a sealer and wala! Be careful handling while stamping and sealing if the soot touches anything it will remove it until sealed. I use a spray sealer in a well ventilated area.

Easier to do smaller stamps when you try it, less area for mistakes. Sometimes your edges may catch on fire and that's fine it adds some character and age to your art.

Accordian Album

9 x 9 accordian album. I didn't over embellish as I am not sure what photos or journaling will be added. Yes another gift.

I love accordian albums they are super for holding a lot of photos and being compact!

They are wonderful opened on a dining table or mantle or closed as a coffee table book.

Album, papers, inks, stock are all Close to My Heart.

Photo Family Tree

This also was a gift for a family member. They are quite fun to make! Not my original idea.

It's a Family Photo Tree with very old and new photos.

Since I am not a carpenter I cheated and used balsa wood, cut in pieces to make the tree effect. (21" x 16" finished)

Ideally it should have 5 photos on each side of the bottom, 3 on the next row, 2 , and 1 for the top. Due to the photo I selected I altered it a bit. The tags can be embellished, embossed, double matted, papered etc as you like. You can even write names or info on the back of the tags.

The great thing is this requires minimal space, so easy to put on a ledge, shelf, mantle or table to display and little space to store when not in use. Want different photos, just change the tags.

** The less people and things you have in the photos the easier to crop to a nice size.

Altered CD Folders

For about 4 years I have made cd folders for gifts. (sorry gang, no beaded ones this year)

We have many in our family that make cd's for gifts. Music, photos of family events through out the year, and other themes~ so a great gift is a personalized cd folder.

This is for a special someone. This folder was brayered, has a chipboard mat for a photo on the cover, and some prisma. I did put liquid glass over the prisma because I didn't want it loose on the cd. Added a bit of silver trim and a few flowers.

The inside has an embossed mat and some tags for photos or journaling of the cd contents or events. And has a stamped saying. You can also attach tags or additonal pages to the center.

The one above is for a fun loving cousin and we have a running joke. Gotta have those people in the family! We dig at each other and tease so I really wanted something funny for his.

Inside reads "Guilt~ the gift that keeps on giving" . We visited in the spring and I will enclose a cd of the photos taken with them on our visit.

The one below is for a teen birthday and her party. Not finished yet but you should get the idea.

Has a mini album on the cover and opens up for journaling , autographs, or special photos.
As you can see the sky is the limit as to what you can use these for and do to them! Add 3 or more together for a book, make it a recipe holder, kids school event and add what you like, have fun with it!
All papers, inks and ribbons were Close to My Heart.

Candle Surround

This project is so easy and great to do most any theme with! Fun for birthdays, a romatic dinner, or a holiday.

It's made from Close to My Heart Cardstocks, Blossum Blocks stampset, inks and vellum. I also pierced some holes to allow a little more light to show through. These can also be made in various sizes. This one is plainer as it's for a friends mantle I am making 9 in 3 sizes to be used with her black & red decor.

These can be made in various sizes also. This was a trial run for the 9 (3 sizes) we are making for a friend to use on her mantle w/ her decor.

I used a tea light as depending on size votives can be hotter.

Flip Album

I have family members and friends who are various types of artist- painters, potters, etc. To many of us Art is a way of life.

"To send light into the darkness of men's hearts, such is the duty of an artist"

I wanted a more artsy cover and got a bit nutsy and cut up several chipboard pieces to get the look I wanted, then inked them.

I have filled this with artist quotes.

When you open 1/2 the pages swing right, 1/2 swing left. Really neat.

The back has an accordian spine. Close to My Heart Perfect Day papers, stock, inks, cd font and twill ribbon (inked to match).

Super fun project!

Coaster Ornaments

Many of us use chipboard coasters for projects. I wanted something more than the standard stamped image & paper. So I started playing around. The shot glass was used to elevate the ornament to photo.

I took (2) 4" coasters, cut a square from the middle of each. Papered the first one with Close to My Heart papers.

Cut the second square in 1/2 diagonally, paper, added the ribbon and then adhered to the first coaster. I used liquid glass to adhere as I wanted it very secure.
You can hang charms inside to dangle from the ribbon. Be sure to make a tie to hang. Maybe attach mistletoe to the bottom and hang it for the holidays.

Memory Accordian Album

This is a gift for a special friend who lost her husband a few weeks before Thanksgiving. A wonderful man. We had the pleasure of spending time with them about a month prior.

I wanted to make something special, but smaller that she could carry with her in a purse or set out if she liked. I did not over embellish as I wanted her to have room to add photos she holds dear, or special journaling.

Papers are Rusty Pickle, ribbons, inks, font are Close To My Heart.

The cover reads "Your memory strings from heaven and attaches to my heart"

Embossed Metal Card

This was a lot of fun! I took metal and ran it through a cuttlebug file.
Love the shine and the unexpected texture and overall effect it adds to the card.
I tried organdy ribbon and it was too soft for the look of the metal, added the silver metalic ribbon.
It could be for any occassion, I am using it for a Dec. Wedding. Add a couple of rings or hearts to the bow. If you use the metals be very careful the edges are very sharp!
You could also emboss the base cardstocks, stamp, or add other papers depending on the look you like.

Reindeer Deer Tin

This is a gift for a friend that loves eyeglasses!
The tin was covered with Close to My Heart papers, the reindeer came from a kids coloring book traced onto white cardstock, he was sponged & chalked to highlight his face. Eyes were liquid glass, and a dot on the nose for glisten and to secure the glasses. He has some tiny piercings around his cheeks for more dimension.
Antlers were cardstock sanded and distressed around the edges. Added the tiny bells and ribbon. The glasses are a real pin and can be taken off to wear! The tin will be filled with other goodies also.

Santa Tag- Gift holder

I needed a large tag for an odd shaped gift and found a Santa face from a coloring book. He was made with Close to My Heart cardstocks, liquid glass for the eyes ( sorry they are not perfect).

Santa's face and features were chalked in.

The tag is about 10" long and 4 " wide as you can tell from the money next to it. I had seen a small card using silk flowers for a beard. I love the Close to My Heart paper flowers as it adds layers. I used liquid glass and prisma for the dots. You could emboss his suit, stamp on it or use some random papers for a totally different look.

Santa's head opens to house money or a gift card, certificate etc. So the tag alone can be used as a gift. Great for a neighbor, paper carrier, child or anyone on your list!

Chipboard Embellishments on Greeting Cards

Chipboard comes in many shapes, colors and thicknesses. I decided to add a few pieces to some cards to add deminsion.

The chipboard flourishes were direct to paper inked to color. All other products are from Close to My Heart.
I really like the overall look, play with a few pieces for your cards and see what you get.

Stamped Tile Coasters

Ceramic tiles are wonderful to create with. They come in many textures, sizes and colors. Many are not level and that adds some character to your piece.
This stamp was from The Angel Company. Outline was done with Stazon and filled in with inks.
Tiles should be coated with one or more coats of sealer.
